Music

Musical NotesIn the music department students have the opportunity for lots of practical music making. There are many lunchtime activities in which they can take part, in addition to their music lessons.

Class music lessons include singing, using keyboards, composing in groups or pairs, learning about and experiencing many different styles of music.

There is also the opportunity for students to have instrumental or singing lessons and there are currently over 125 students who are taking music lessons within school in woodwind, strings, brass, singing, guitar, piano, keyboard and drum-kit. There is a team of peripatetic music teachers from the Northamptonshire Music Service which visits our school to provide this tuition. Lessons are organised on a rota basis each week.

Students can be entered for graded music exams through the school or their instrumental teacher.
Students have the opportunity to perform in school assemblies, concerts, showcases and music festivals.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

  • Christmas showcase and summer concerts featuring bands and orchestra, choirs and soloists
  • Groups and choirs take part in Kettering Eisteddfod and Northampton Music Festival
  • Many students pass graded music exams
  • Groups take part in workshops, concerts or entertainment in the wider community such as visits to junior schools, retirement homes and public venues
  • Visits to musical concerts and performances
